This webinar will present concepts for better reporting. Your great analysis and data worksheets are indeed great, however, they probably need interpretation,… “too much detail”…. says your boss. Dashboards display data graphically providing visualization that help focus on the issue at hand with attention on key trends, comparisons, exceptions and other key points. While some dreaded data may be displayed, only the data that is relevant to the goal of the dashboard is shown or provided in supporting schedules. A good dashboard may contain predefined conclusions relevant to the goal of the dashboard, relieving the user from performing their own analysis.

The focus of this webinar is the underlying concept that leads to good reporting. This is the first of two (a third in the process) webinars using basic Excel concepts. The next webinar presents Interactive Dashboards (the user has control of what they want to see), much more advanced and modern Excel concepts including Dynamic Arrays.

This webinar:

  • Why Dashboards?
  • The difference in Dashboards and reports
  • Telling a Story
  • Common-Sized Income Statements or Data-Driven Report
  • Adding variable text that grabs auto updating numbers
  • Trending
  • Slicers
  • Comments-When and When Not to Use
  • In Cell Charting-Added Flexibility
  • Variance Arrows with Formula and Conditional Formatting
  • Charting Errors – Side by Side Time Comparisons
  • Better Axis Choices to Avoid Distortions

Handout Materials:
All the files used in presenting these topics will be available for download before the webinar. The files will contain instructions on how to use the concept which includes the presenter’s notes.  The files will remain available online until May 31, 2021.

The Part 2 course will take everything above to the next level and beyond including interactive dashboards..

Jim Colville, Bio
Jim began working with spreadsheets with Lotus 1-2-3, version1a and then with Excel v3, and soon thereafter v4. He learned very early the power of Excel and how to be super productive in solving problems, creating business solutions and enhancing reporting in his CPA practice.  Beginning with Excel v5, he began developing spreadsheets with huge power and flexibility and has continued to do so through today with Excel 365.

Seeing the business opportunity in educating others in using Excel he began his own PC training company teaching over 20,000 users over a period about four years. The training evolved into a consulting company offering specific solutions to companies and corporations by combining training combined with project challenges which resulted in powerful solutions. A by-product of this is Jim’s Zero Time Reporting, once the data is entered (or imported) the report is done.

Jim has authored well over Excel 500 courses, both as training materials and solution based Excel products for companies, corporations and nonprofit organizations. Many of these later became the foundation of web based articles and solutions under the the name of . With the saturation of Internet based Excel websites and Jim’s commitment to his CPA business the Info-Stat website was allowed to sunset. With his retirement from his CPA practice in 2019, Jim has revitalized his web-based activities in by writing articles, creating Excel files that offer solutions, revitalizing and more importantly, educational webinars through AEI. Excel has changed dramatically over the years and the new course and webinar offerings significantly modernize the Excel materials including, but not limited to, business and artificial intelligence.

Of major significance is the evolution of Jim’s education activities from a local San Diego PC training company to a national and world wide based company with Internet based products, both website and webinar offerings.
